Career Description

Dialysis technicians also work on protocols for equipment evaluation and training materials for patients and staff. Dialysis technicians generally work under a physician or nurse's supervision, usually in a hospital, clinic, or home-dialysis program.

Educational Requirements
To become a dialysis technician, you must first have a high school diploma. Next, you must complete a state-approved training program at a technical institute, community college, or hospital. In addition, three credentialing programs are offered for dialysis technicians.

Areas of study include: physiology, anatomy, aseptic techniques, phlebotomy, and dialysis operation. Dialysis technician students will also undergo supervised clinical training in a hospital, clinic, or home dialysis program.
