Career Description
Dialysis technicians monitor and operate dialysis machinery, which removes waste and excess fluids from the blood of patients whose kidneys are no longer functioning properly. Educational Requirements
To become a dialysis technician, you must first have a high school diploma. Next, you must complete a state-approved training program at a technical institute, community college, or hospital. In addition, three credentialing programs are offered for dialysis technicians.
Areas of study include: physiology, anatomy, aseptic techniques, phlebotomy, and dialysis operation. Dialysis technician students will also undergo supervised clinical training in a hospital, clinic, or home dialysis program.
